Luca Guadagnino Gets Crafty

Luca Guadagnino, a renowned film director and designer, showcased his multifaceted talents in Venice, Italy, during the Venice Film Festival. He premiered his latest film, 'Queer,' an adaptation of William S. Burroughs's novella, while also curating the Homo Faber exhibition. This craftsmanship exhibition, which opened on September 1, 2024, at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, celebrates the artistry of 400 artisans from 70 countries. The exhibition, organized by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, aims to highlight the importance of craftsmanship in contemporary culture. Guadagnino collaborated with project manager Nicolo Rosmarini to create an immersive experience that guides visitors through a series of multisensory installations. Each installation represents different aspects of human experience, such as Childhood, Courtship, and Dreams. The design process was comprehensive, with Guadagnino and Rosmarini overseeing every detail, from lighting to uniforms and even tote bags. This meticulous approach resulted in a cohesive narrative that enhances the visitor experience. The exhibition features 800 objects, showcasing the diverse skills and creativity of artisans worldwide.
