Iberdrola and AWS Partner for AI in Energy
- Iberdrola partners with AWS for generative artificial intelligence workloads in clean energy sector.
- AWS selected as the preferred cloud provider for Iberdrola.
- Partnership aims to drive innovation and sustainability in the energy industry.
SEATTLE—Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) has been chosen by Iberdrola, a leading global clean energy company, as its preferred cloud provider for generative artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. This partnership aims to leverage AWS technologies, including Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, to enhance operational efficiency, personalize customer interactions, and optimize energy production processes. Iberdrola plans to utilize a generative AI platform built on Amazon Bedrock, enabling its workforce to access top foundation models and tools for developing AI applications. One notable project involves creating an AI application to assist the legal team in efficiently navigating corporate contracts. By integrating data from over 400 renewable energy sites worldwide, Iberdrola will employ AWS generative AI, along with tools like Renewables Data Lake and Amazon Redshift, to facilitate real-time asset monitoring and predictive maintenance. Howard Gefen, general manager of Energy & Utilities at AWS, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the potential to transform customer and employee experiences while significantly improving operational efficiency. This initiative aligns with the increasing demand for electricity generated from carbon-free sources, positioning Iberdrola to better meet these needs. Iberdrola reported revenues of nearly €50 billion in 2023, with a net profit of €4.8 billion and substantial tax contributions across its operational regions. The partnership with AWS is expected to further enhance its capabilities in the renewable energy sector, driving innovation and sustainability.
