Fatal Shooting in Neighbor Dispute

A tragic incident unfolded in Canton Township on Saturday, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Nathan Morris, who was allegedly shot during a confrontation with a neighbor. According to police reports, the shooting occurred around 11:48 a.m. in the 200 block of Cornell Street. The Michigan GOP identified Morris, who was out for a walk with his family when the altercation began after his daughter touched the mulch of a neighbor's yard. Witnesses claim that the neighbor brandished a firearm and threatened Morris's family. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, Morris sent his family home and confronted the neighbor alone. Unfortunately, he was shot during this encounter and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The suspect is currently in custody, awaiting a review from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh condemned the incident as a "senseless act of violence" and extended condolences to Morris's family and neighbors who witnessed the event. Morris was actively involved in his community, serving as the secretary of the 6th Congressional District Republican Committee and advocating for safe schools for his daughters. Described as a devoted family man and a strong Christian, Morris was remembered fondly by colleagues and friends. He had recently entered politics in response to Ford Motor Company's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, reflecting his commitment to his community and family values.
