Jaipur's Albert Hall Museum Closes to Combat Rat Infestation

In Jaipur, India, the Albert Hall Museum, renowned for its collection of royal artefacts, has been closed to the public due to a rat infestation threatening its historic treasures. Pest control teams have been deployed to address the issue, which has led to the museum's closure for two days. The museum houses significant items, including a 2,346-year-old Egyptian mummy's sarcophagus and a giant Persian carpet, attracting nearly a million visitors annually. Authorities are taking this action to prevent potential damage to these invaluable artefacts, as the rodents have been observed causing destruction in the museum's gardens. Although no significant harm has been reported to the building or its contents, the risk of rats accessing the museum from underground remains a concern. The Jaipur Development Authority is overseeing the pest control efforts, which involve placing pesticide-laced baits to eliminate the rodents. The museum is expected to remain closed until the infestation is successfully managed, with hopes to reopen by Wednesday. This intervention underscores the importance of preserving the cultural heritage housed within the museum, which has been safeguarded for over a century since its establishment in 1876.
