Eoin Morrow, who has no fixed address, appeared via videolink at Newry Magistrates' Court after being charged with multiple offenses, including possessing criminal property and dangerous driving. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when police attempted to stop a black Audi on the Dublin Road in Newry. The vehicle fled, driving recklessly on the wrong side of the road and reaching speeds of up to 109mph as it headed towards the Irish border. During the pursuit, a mobile phone was seen being thrown from the car, which was later recovered by police. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered two bags filled with pound sterling banknotes and another phone inside. Morrow was found with a note indicating a sum of "389,740," although the total cash amount has yet to be officially counted, with estimates ranging between £300,000 and £400,000. Morrow's solicitor claimed he was under duress, but did not provide further details during the police interview. In court, Morrow only confirmed his identity and understanding of the charges against him. No bail application was made, and he was remanded into custody. The case has raised concerns regarding the potential involvement of organized crime, given the large sum of cash and the nature of the driving offenses. Morrow is scheduled to appear in court again on 16 October, where further proceedings will take place to address the charges against him.
