Story

DETROIT — General Motors (GM) has officially launched redesigned versions of its popular GMC Terrain crossover, introducing a new standard "Elevation" model. The updated Terrain boasts a more rugged exterior and a modernized interior featuring a total of 26 inches of screens, including a 15-inch center touchscreen and an 11-inch driver information cluster. These enhancements are part of a broader initiative to incorporate new standard safety and convenience features, such as adaptive cruise control, front heated seats, and improved automatic emergency braking. In addition to the technological upgrades, the redesigned Terrain simplifies its model lineup by merging the previous "SLE" and "SLT" trims into the new Elevation model. This approach aligns with GM's strategy of using the Elevation trim across various vehicles in its lineup. The company has not yet disclosed pricing details for the revamped Terrain, which is anticipated to hit GMC showrooms later this year. The Elevation trim will be the first to launch, followed by the off-road-oriented AT4 and the luxury Denali models. The Terrain has consistently ranked as one of GMC's best-selling non-truck nameplates, contributing to the brand's diverse portfolio that includes everything from compact crossovers to large trucks and SUVs, such as the GMC Hummer EVs. Sales of the Terrain have shown a significant rebound, with a 31% increase year-over-year in the first half of 2024, following a 17% decline in 2023, indicating a positive trend for the model as it prepares for its new release.
