- Witte aims to create positive experiences for employees and users while addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
In October 2024, Babbel, a Berlin-based language learning platform, announced a leadership change as co-founder Markus Witte returned to run the company, replacing CEO Arne Schepker. Schepker, who joined Babbel as CMO in 2015, decided not to extend his contract, citing a lack of full commitment necessary for the CEO role. Witte, who will also serve as Executive Chairman and Managing Director, emphasized the importance of adapting to technological changes, particularly the integration of AI in language learning. He believes that the current phase presents an opportunity for Babbel to leverage its expertise alongside advancements in AI, which can enhance the language learning experience. Witte aims to create more positive experiences for both employees and users, focusing on moments of delight while navigating the challenges posed by AI. This transition comes at a time when the company is also addressing the needs of students and Ukrainian refugees by providing free language learning resources during the pandemic and ongoing conflict.
