Some Teammates Left Olympic Village Due to Cramped Conditions

American tennis star Coco Gauff has brought attention to the cramped living conditions at the Olympic Village in Paris, sharing her experience in a TikTok video. In the clip, Gauff humorously noted the situation, stating, "10 girls, two bathrooms," as she and her teammates struggled to prepare for the Summer Games. She later revealed that most of the tennis team had opted to stay in a hotel, leaving her with just four other athletes to share the limited facilities. In addition to the bathroom situation, Gauff mentioned her makeshift sleeping arrangements, having borrowed a mattress topper from the archery team to improve her comfort on the cardboard beds provided. The Olympic Village has faced scrutiny for its living conditions, which have become a hot topic as the Games approach. Another significant concern is the absence of air conditioning in the village. Organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics opted against installing traditional air conditioning units, instead implementing a cooling system that utilizes naturally cold water sourced from 70 meters deep. This innovative approach aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the Games and promote sustainability, aligning with the organizing committee's goal of hosting the most eco-friendly Olympics to date. To accommodate athletes' needs, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has permitted competitors to bring personal cooling units, addressing concerns about heat management during the event.
