Des Moines Officer Injured and Suspect Killed in Violent Incident

Paul Parizek, the officer was accidentally shot in the back of the shoulder by a fellow officer during a chaotic exchange of gunfire. The injured officer, a 37-year-old with four years of service, was hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition by Tuesday afternoon. The incident began early Tuesday morning when officers responded to a report of a protective order violation at a residence in Des Moines. Shortly after arriving, police spotted the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit that ended when the vehicle left the road and stopped. As officers approached the vehicle, shots were fired, resulting in the injury of one officer. In the ensuing exchange, police returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
