Delhi's Ranhola area witnessed a heartbreaking incident on Saturday when a 13-year-old boy was electrocuted while playing cricket. The Delhi Police received an emergency call around 1:30 PM, followed by a report from Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital confirming the boy's death after he touched an iron pole that was live with electricity. The boy had gone to retrieve a ball when the accident occurred, and despite immediate transport to the hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. In the wake of this tragedy, the police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances that led to this fatal incident. This event coincided with heavy rainfall across Delhi-NCR, which has caused significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions in the region. This incident is not isolated, as it follows another electrocution case just three weeks prior, where a 26-year-old UPSC aspirant, Nilesh Rai, lost his life. Nilesh was electrocuted after stepping into rainwater that had pooled near the Patel Nagar metro station. He was found stuck to an iron gate due to the electric shock, and despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The recurrence of such tragic incidents raises concerns about public safety and the need for better infrastructure to prevent electrocution during adverse weather conditions.
