Taiwan advances smart technology with 5G innovations in Kaohsiung

In an effort to enhance Taiwan's digital infrastructure, Huang Yen-nun, the Minister of Digital Affairs, recently led a delegation to Kaohsiung City. This visit aimed to provide insights into how local governments and industries are utilizing advanced 5G network technology. The delegation's first stop was at a facility established by Taiwan Mobile, showcasing a smart vehicle fleet management system and an electric car charging station. They observed a demonstration of an Internet of Things platform that analyzed driving data in real time, capable of issuing alerts for any abnormalities during vehicle operation. The group then moved on to Evergreen Marine Corporation's Terminal 7, situated at the Port of Kaohsiung. This terminal is significant as it has implemented a corporate 5G network by Chunghwa Telecom Co., which facilitates remote and automated operations. This innovative approach has made it the first smart container site in Taiwan to successfully integrate 5G technology. The Ministry of Digital Affairs emphasized the importance of such advancements as they represent a major milestone in the development of smart harbors within Taiwan's shores. During this visit, the MODA underscored the collaborative efforts between academia, the government, and industries that are essential for promoting digital transformation.
