Specifically, the company increased access by adding 70 new locations, allowing a greater number of people to access essential online services during the holiday season. The National Databank, which originated in 2021 in partnership with the Good Things Foundation, serves as a resource for those unable to afford data connectivity, effectively functioning like a food bank but for mobile data, aiding individuals in need. The recent expansion aims to address the increasing digital divide exacerbated by economic challenges faced by low-income individuals, particularly as around 26% of them struggle to pay their mobile phone bills, according to new research from Virgin Media O2. The availability of these services is seen as crucial for maintaining connections with loved ones and accessing vital online resources, especially during critical times such as Christmas when people feel the impact of loneliness without internet access. Nicola Green, chief communications and corporate affairs officer at Virgin Media O2, emphasized that no one should have to choose between essential bills and mobile data, highlighting their commitment to digital inclusion.
