Mira Bhayandar's local legislator, Geeta Jain, recently chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Laadki Bahin (My Beloved Sister) Yojana, a new initiative introduced by the Maha-Yuti government in the state budget. The meeting took place at the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) and included senior officials from civic and revenue departments. The scheme, effective from July 1, aims to provide a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,500 to women aged 21 to 65 from families earning below Rs. 2.5 lakh. Applications for the scheme can be submitted online or offline until August 31. A government resolution mandates that assembly-wise committees, led by ruling party legislators, will compile a list of eligible beneficiaries. Jain expressed pride in her role as chairperson of the committee, emphasizing the scheme's potential to enhance women's economic development. She urged officials to intensify outreach efforts and instructed the tehsildar to expedite income certificate issuance for applicants. Despite the initiative's promise, the response in Mira Bhayandar has been underwhelming. As of now, only 21,600 applications have been approved and submitted to the district collector's office for processing. Officials are also assisting nearly 3,700 applicants who need to correct errors in their submissions. The MY government hopes this scheme will significantly impact the upcoming elections, inspired by a similar program in Madhya Pradesh.
