Nicholas Roske, the man charged with attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, is scheduled to stand trial on June 9, 2025. Roske, who allegedly traveled to Kavanaugh’s Maryland residence armed with a gun and burglary tools, appeared in court on Tuesday dressed in a maroon prison uniform. The trial will take place in a federal courthouse in Maryland and is expected to last just over a week. Judge Peter J. Messitte established the trial date after both prosecutors and defense attorneys failed to reach a plea agreement over the past two years. During the court proceedings, discussions included various filing deadlines, and the judge inquired whether further mental evaluations for Roske would be necessary. His attorney, Andrew Szekely, confirmed that no additional mental evaluations were required. Szekely also indicated that the defense would seek to exclude the statement Roske made to law enforcement following his arrest. However, they will not contest the admissibility of 911 calls in which Roske expressed a desire to harm Kavanaugh. Prosecutors revealed that Roske had called 911 while near Kavanaugh’s home in June 2022, stating he needed “psychiatric help” and confirming his intent to harm both himself and the justice. The upcoming trial will address the serious charges against Roske, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding threats to public officials.
