Story

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - As the final weekend before Labor Day approaches, families in Pittsburgh can look forward to a variety of engaging activities. The Fort Pitt Museum will host a cannon firing event on August 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., where visitors can witness a replica British six-pounder cannon in action. Costumed re-enactors will demonstrate the historical significance of artillery used in the 1700s, with free admission for outdoor activities, weather permitting. On the same day, the Great American Banana Split Fest will take place, celebrating the dessert's origins in Latrobe. This festive event promises a delightful mix of food, games, and even a car show, making it a sweet outing for families. Attendees can indulge in various treats while enjoying the lively atmosphere. Additionally, the Monroeville Public Library will host its sixth annual Fun Fest on August 24 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Last year, the event attracted around 2,500 participants who enjoyed games, music, and food, alongside community and exhibitor booths. This year, a special highlight will be the opportunity for children to meet Bluey, the beloved character from the popular animated series. With these exciting events lined up, families in Pittsburgh have plenty of options to create lasting memories before the summer season officially comes to a close.
