RANCHO CORDOVA – A vigilant employee at a Sacramento-area jewelry store played a crucial role in the arrest of 44-year-old Scott Prange, a tier three sex offender, earlier this year. Prange was reportedly shopping for a promise ring for a 15-year-old girl in February when the clerk noticed suspicious interactions between them. Concerned for the teen's safety, the clerk promptly contacted the sheriff's office. Upon arrival, deputies detained Prange in the parking lot and discovered he was out of compliance with his sexual offender registration. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant for absconding from parole. Prange's criminal history includes multiple arrests, notably for possessing child pornography, which raised further alarms among law enforcement. During the investigation, deputies found that Prange possessed thousands of videos of child pornography, some involving infants. He was subsequently booked into jail, where he remains ineligible for bail.
