In early January 2025, TCL announced significant advancements in its TV technology by unveiling the first models from its 2025 range in a bid to strengthen its grip on the premium TV market. The company's Pangu Lab in China has developed a new Super High Energy LED Chip aimed at enhancing brightness levels by over 53%. This comes after TCL's 2024 models already achieved remarkable brightness, leading to excitement about the new potential levels that can be reached with the upcoming QM6K series. The QM6K series will feature an innovative Micro OD backlight system designed to minimize the halo or blooming effect that some LED TVs suffer from, offering an impressive 143% improvement in backlight uniformity. The primary focus of these advancements is to enhance the overall HDR performance by ensuring light is effectively controlled across various picture elements, thus preserving the quality of darker scenes while allowing bright objects to stand out effectively. Moreover, the QM6K range incorporates high-contrast CSOT HVA panels that allow better performance in darker scenes, contributing to a claimed static contrast ratio of 7,000:1—reportedly up to five times better than competitors.
