The BBC has recently announced its acquisition of a new miniseries based on the acclaimed novel, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, by Richard Flanagan, which is set to engage audiences with its heart-wrenching narrative. This adaptation is based on a book that won the prestigious Man Booker Prize in 2014, highlighting the story of an Australian prisoner of war during World War II who suffered through the harrowing experience of working on the Death Railway in occupied Burma. The screenplay will follow the life of the central character, Dorrigo Evans, capturing key moments from his passionate love affair to the grim realities of being a prisoner, and then his later life as a war hero. Leading the cast is Jacob Elordi, known for his roles in Euphoria and Saltburn, portraying a younger version of Dorrigo Evans, while CiarĂ¡n Hinds will depict the character in his later years.
