Top Countries with Cleanest Air
- A new report ranks countries with the cleanest air, with European countries leading the pack.
- Estonia is identified as the country with the cleanest air in the world.
- The World Population Review's ranking highlights the importance of air quality for health and well-being.
A recent report by the World Population Review, titled “The Air We Breathe,” ranks countries based on air quality and emissions, revealing that Europe dominates the list, with Estonia taking the top position. The report utilizes the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) to evaluate factors such as CO2 and methane emissions, carbon-negative achievements, and the implementation of sustainable practices. Since 2020, countries like Denmark, the United Kingdom, Finland, and Sweden have consistently featured among the cleanest nations. In stark contrast, China leads the world in CO2 emissions, releasing an alarming 12,667 million tons, primarily due to its extensive industrial and energy sectors. While few nations have reached carbon-negative status, Suriname stands out as the only country to achieve this milestone, boasting an impressive 90-97% forest cover that offsets its mining emissions. Gabon and Guyana also contribute significantly to carbon sequestration, with forest covers of 91.3% and 93.6%, respectively. Sweden, with a forest cover of 68.7%, is highlighted as a prime destination for nature enthusiasts. The report emphasizes the importance of forests and rainforests in global biodiversity and carbon sequestration. The Amazon rainforest, the largest tropical rainforest, spans several South American countries, while the United States is home to diverse rainforest regions, including the Tongass National Forest. Overall, the report underscores the critical role of environmental policies and forest conservation in combating climate change and promoting cleaner air worldwide.
