Former Arsenal player charged with drug smuggling at Stansted airport

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, a 33-year-old professional footballer and former Arsenal academy player, has been charged with attempting to smuggle £600,000 worth of cannabis through Stansted Airport. The incident occurred on September 2, when Border Force officers discovered approximately 60kg of the drug in two suitcases that had arrived on a flight from Bangkok, Thailand. Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers in Gourock, Inverclyde, shortly after the discovery. The NCA's investigation led to the arrest of two women, aged 28 and 32, who were also involved in the smuggling attempt. They have since appeared in court and are scheduled to return for further proceedings in October. Emmanuel-Thomas is expected to appear before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court, facing serious charges related to the importation of class B drugs.
