EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert returned to practice on Monday for the first time since July 31, following a two-week recovery period in a walking boot due to a plantar fascia injury in his right foot. Although Herbert did not participate in full-team drills, he showcased his skills during 7-on-7 sessions, indicating a positive step towards his return to full participation as the Chargers prepare for their season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 8. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh expressed enthusiasm about Herbert's performance, noting his "pinpoint accuracy" and overall readiness. Harbaugh described the atmosphere during practice as uplifting, likening it to music playing and the presence of "voices of angels." This optimism comes as the team looks to solidify its quarterback situation ahead of the regular season. In Herbert's absence, Easton Stick, who filled in last season when Herbert suffered a finger injury, has faced challenges during the preseason. Stick has struggled, committing three turnovers and leading the team to only three field goals in two games. Harbaugh confirmed that Stick will start in the upcoming preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys. Additionally, the Chargers signed quarterback Luis Perez on August 7, who played the second half of the recent game against the Rams. Meanwhile, Max Duggan, a seventh-round pick from last year, was waived on Monday as the team continues to finalize its roster ahead of the season.
