Border Patrol agent drowns saving his children from rip current

Antonio, a U.S. citizen, had unknowingly driven over an improvised explosive device (IED) set by Gulf Cartel gunmen in Tamaulipas and died in January. The family was plagued by loss as they coped with both dramatic events. Eric’s act of courage occurred while he was vacationing with his family. He noticed his children were endangered by the ripping current and immediately took action. Witnesses reported that he succeeded in bringing his children to safety, demonstrating the heroism that has defined his career as a Border Patrol agent. Tragically, he succumbed to the waves and was not able to resurface, prompting a rescue operation. Emergency services attempted to locate him quickly, and his body was later recovered from the sea.
