Man Arrested in Poland for Abusing Woman for Over 5 Years

In southwest Poland, a 35-year-old man named Mateusz J. has been arrested for allegedly imprisoning and abusing a woman for over five years. The abuse reportedly began in January 2019 and took place in a shed at his family farm in the village of Gaiki, near Glogow. The victim, now 30 years old, was subjected to severe physical and mental abuse, including sexual violence, and was kept in isolation without basic amenities such as water or toilet facilities. The man controlled the woman, humiliating her and limiting her access to food and drink. He would only allow her outside while covering her eyes with a hood. His elderly parents claimed they were unaware of the situation, raising questions about the family dynamics and the environment that allowed such abuse to occur. The case came to light when the man brought the woman to a hospital for treatment of a dislocated shoulder. It was there that she managed to alert the medical staff about her dire circumstances, prompting an investigation. Prosecutors have stated that the man denies any wrongdoing, despite the serious allegations against him. If convicted, he faces a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years.
