Story

In a significant expansion of its services, American Express announced plans to open a new lounge concept named Sidecar in Las Vegas. Set to debut in 2026, this innovative space is aimed at eligible Card Members looking for a quick and efficient experience before their flights. This development comes in response to the growing demand for pre-flight lounge access, especially in the post-pandemic era, where overcrowding in airports has become a notable concern. The initiative represents an attempt by American Express to address this inconvenience by offering a dedicated area for travelers who typically spend less than an hour in existing lounges. The first Centurion Lounge opened at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) in 2013, and the introduction of the Sidecar lounge will mark a significant milestone as it makes American Express the only credit card issuer with two lounges at the airport. Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, highlighted that many visitors have limited time, which is why the Sidecar was created. Eligible members who hold the Platinum Card will have complimentary access to this new facility, fostering a more relaxed environment for those who require a quick bite or drink just before boarding. Alongside the lounge's innovation, American Express introduced The Culinary Collective, a collaboration with renowned chefs to enhance the culinary offerings in its existing and upcoming lounges. This new initiative aims to elevate the dining experience with menus designed by prominent figures in the culinary world, including James Beard Award winners. Chefs like Mashama Bailey, Sarah Grueneberg, Kwame Onwuachi, and Mike Solomonov are contributing not only their expertise but also creating dishes that reflect a diverse array of flavors and culinary traditions, further enriching the lounge experience for travelers. With the first offerings available later this month, mixologist Harrison Ginsberg will also introduce a selection of craft cocktails inspired by each chef's distinct culinary contributions. This creative collaboration is designed to provide travelers with high-quality dining options and drinks as part of an airport lounge experience that caters to modern needs. The combination of Sidecar's quick service and the exceptional dining from The Culinary Collective positions American Express to meet the evolving demands of its cardholders effectively, ensuring that they continue to deliver value through innovative offerings focused on both convenience and quality.
