Leuven's strict fines for improper parking

Leuven has introduced a stringent parking enforcement policy targeting Romanian vehicles, imposing €25 fines for improper parking that accumulate every half-day. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with parking regulations in paid areas, preventing vehicles from occupying spaces without payment or authorization. The fines are designed to encourage timely rectification of parking violations, as failure to address the issue promptly can lead to significant financial penalties. The enforcement of these parking rules is managed by the parking company Arsoa, rather than the police. Accumulating 15 fines can result in costs nearing €400, prompting authorities to take a firmer stance against repeat offenders. In cases of persistent violations, law enforcement may resort to placing wheel locks on offending vehicles, effectively immobilizing them to prevent owners from evading penalties. Marc Vranckx from the police department emphasized that this approach is intended to reinforce adherence to parking regulations and deter habitual offenders.
