During an official visit to the United Kingdom months ago, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed over 180 Indian students in London, highlighting the significant role of youth in India's development. In his speech, he pointed out that India’s young generation possesses immense potential and confidence that is crucial for driving the country forward. He also made a comparison with global demographics, noting the declining youth populations in many parts of the world, which stands in stark contrast to India's growing youth demographic. Birla's address included an appeal to the students to contribute actively to the nation’s progress. He expressed his belief that the innovative capacity and competitive spirit of Indian youth are essential for addressing the challenges faced by the nation. The event was attended by notable dignitaries such as Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami, adding to its significance as a platform for connecting with students abroad. In a separate initiative, the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 took place in New Delhi, aiming to empower young leaders to engage in nation-building efforts. Organized by the Department of Youth Affairs, this event brought together 3,000 participants to present their visionary ideas for a Viksit Bharat, showcasing innovative solutions to various societal challenges. This event is set against the backdrop of the Indian government's commitment to harnessing youth engagement for national development and progress. Additionally, the 34th National Youth Parliament Competition for Kendriya Vidyalayas recognized the importance of involving young people in democratic processes. The award ceremony, presided over by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, aimed to instill the values of leadership and respect for diverse viewpoints among students. The focus of these initiatives is to familiarize youth with parliamentary procedures and encourage their active participation in democracy, thereby fostering holistic development and ensuring that the voice of the young generation is heard in governance.
