Rhode Island State Police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Ryan Minasian, a Pawtucket resident and camp counselor at the Newman YMCA in Seekonk, on charges of possessing child pornography. The investigation began when authorities detected files being shared online, leading them to Minasian's home at 57 Makin St. A search conducted on Wednesday confirmed his ownership of the illicit materials. Following his arrest, Minasian was arraigned and released on a $2,500 surety bail. As part of the conditions of his release, he has been ordered to avoid unsupervised contact with minors and has restricted access to the internet. State police emphasized that there is currently no evidence suggesting any inappropriate conduct involving campers at the YMCA. In response to the charges, the Greater Providence YMCA confirmed that Minasian has been terminated from his position. A spokesperson for the organization expressed deep concern over the allegations and stated that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement. They reassured the public that there is no indication that any children associated with the YMCA are at risk, highlighting their commitment to safety through thorough background checks for all employees. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding Minasian to reach out to the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at (401) 921-1170.
