Subway Brings Back Affordable Footlongs
- Subway is bringing back cheap footlongs as it joins the fast food value menu wars.
- The popular sandwich chain is offering the affordable option, though not priced at $5.
- Customers can now enjoy the return of Subway's wallet-friendly footlongs.
Subway is re-entering the fast food value menu competition by offering footlong sandwiches for $6.99, starting August 26. This promotion, which represents a significant discount from prices that can reach $14 in some locations, aims to attract customers who are increasingly cautious about spending amid rising fast food prices. However, the deal is limited to online orders through the Subway app or website using the code “699FL” and will be available until September 8. The initiative comes as Subway faces challenges similar to those of other major fast food chains like McDonald’s and Burger King, which have reported declining sales and customer traffic. Doug Fry, president of Subway North America, emphasized the need for affordable meal options, stating that today’s diners are often forced to compromise on quality or variety due to budget constraints. The new pricing strategy is part of Subway's broader effort to enhance its menu and appeal to cost-conscious consumers. In addition to the footlong promotion, Subway has diversified its offerings with new items like $3 Dippers and Sidekick snacks priced between $2 and $5. This move is seen as essential for boosting revenue, especially as customers resist price hikes amid inflation. Industry experts note that Subway has struggled in the sandwich segment and needs to innovate to drive traffic. Subway's challenges are compounded by a declining store count, having closed over 400 locations in the U.S. in 2023, marking its lowest number of restaurants since 2005. The chain is working to revitalize its brand and improve sales through menu customization and a focus on freshly sliced meats.
