New mural unveiled at St Margaret"s Academy in Torquay

A primary school in Torquay has unveiled a new mural aimed at inspiring students by depicting significant historical events, figures, and locations. The project was funded by £20,000 raised through the parent-teacher association and successful grant applications. The mural, created by artist Neil Wilkinson-Cave, features scenes from World War Two, the Romans, and even dinosaurs, showcasing a variety of artistic styles. Students experienced the mural for the first time as the school opened for the new term, with one year six student expressing excitement about the lifelike chimney sweep depicted in the artwork. The chair of the PTA, Laura Kenyon, emphasized the mural's educational value, particularly for students who may not engage with traditional reading. She believes that integrating art into education can enhance historical understanding. Head teacher Tim Hughes echoed this sentiment, noting that such initiatives attract children to school and highlight the importance of education. He also praised the newly funded library, which he described as an incredible resource for fostering reading skills among students.
