- The victory took place in The Bronx, showcasing Cole's exceptional performance.
Gerrit Cole marked a significant milestone in his career on Thursday, earning his 150th career win as the New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-0 at Yankee Stadium. This achievement places Cole among an elite group of only four active MLB players to reach this mark. Following the game, Cole expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a special number... I’m thrilled about it, and more thrilled that we played so well today.” The 33-year-old pitcher faced challenges earlier in the season, including a lengthy absence due to nerve inflammation and edema in his throwing elbow. After struggling to regain his form and experiencing fatigue that caused him to miss a start, Cole's performance on Thursday was a much-needed boost. He delivered six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, despite a minor setback involving a pitch-clock violation that briefly put him behind in the count. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that the violation was a result of catcher Austin Wells rushing to put on his gear, which inadvertently started the pitch clock sooner. Cole, who recorded two strikeouts and threw 55 strikes on 95 pitches, has a remarkable record against the Guardians, boasting an 11-2 career mark against them. Boone praised Cole's achievement, suggesting it places him on a "Hall of Fame track," highlighting the control exhibited by Cole and his teammates during the game.
