Indiana study reveals Gen Z’s surprising sex habits and fantasies
- The study surveyed over 3,310 users of the dating app Feeld, revealing that Gen Z has similar sexual frequencies to Boomers, both being the least sexually active generations.
- Half of Gen Z participants reported being single, contrasting with older generations, and they showed a greater interest in exploring kinks.
- Despite lower sexual activity, Gen Z is more likely to fantasize about monogamy, indicating a complex relationship with sexuality.
A recent study conducted by Indiana researchers examined the sexual habits and fantasies of different generations, revealing that Gen Z is not as sexually active as older generations. The study, which surveyed over 3,310 users of the dating app Feeld from 71 countries, found that both Generation X and millennials reported an average of five sexual encounters per month, while Gen Z and Boomers had similar, lower frequencies. Interestingly, 50% of Gen Z participants identified as single, a stark contrast to the lower single rates among older generations. Despite their lower sexual activity, Gen Z participants displayed a notable openness to exploring kinks, with half reporting they had discovered new kinks since joining Feeld. This suggests a greater interest in sexual exploration among younger adults, possibly due to a cultural shift towards more adventurous sexual attitudes. The researchers proposed two explanations for this trend: older adults may have had more time to discover their preferences, while younger adults might be more inclined to explore kinks due to a broader acceptance of diverse sexual practices. Moreover, the study highlighted a paradox where Gen Z is more likely to fantasize about monogamy compared to older generations, who tend to prefer non-monogamous arrangements. This could be attributed to the fact that older adults have had more experience with monogamy and may have found it unsuitable, while Gen Z, being predominantly single, romanticizes monogamous relationships. Overall, the findings challenge common perceptions of Gen Z as sexually liberated and polyamorous, revealing a complex relationship with sexuality that combines lower activity levels with a strong interest in exploration and a romantic idealization of monogamy.
