- More than a quarter of the planes scheduled to depart will be grounded from August 15 to 17.
- The strike disrupts travel plans for British tourists at a popular holiday destination.
EasyJet has announced the cancellation of 232 flights to and from Portugal due to a strike by air cabin crew, affecting travel plans from August 15 to 17. The airline had initially scheduled 1,138 flights during this period, but over a quarter will now remain grounded, including 27 flights between the UK and Portugal. Passengers are advised to check their flight status using EasyJet's online flight checker. The strike follows a call from Portugal's National Civil Aviation Flight Staff Union, which urged EasyJet to address the "fair demands" of its workers. The cabin crew union, SNPVAC, criticized the airline for ignoring previous suggestions to avert the strike, highlighting deteriorating working conditions, including longer hours and staff shortages. Union president Ricardo Penarroias emphasized the need for improved conditions for the crew. In response to the strike, an EasyJet spokesperson expressed disappointment, stating that the airline had taken steps to minimize disruption by preemptively canceling some flights. They confirmed that only 62% of the flight program would operate during the strike period. Affected customers have been contacted with options to rebook or receive refunds. As the strike coincides with a peak travel season, EasyJet is urging travelers to stay informed about their flight status, emphasizing the importance of planning ahead during this challenging time for both the airline and its customers.
