Story

In the aftermath of a civil case ruling in Dublin, major retailers in the UK and Ireland have decided to discontinue the sale of alcoholic beverages associated with Conor McGregor. This decision was announced by companies such as Tesco and Musgrave, which confirmed the removal of McGregor’s Proper No Twelve whiskey from their stores and online platforms. The court ruling was in favor of Nikita Hand, who alleged that McGregor raped her in a Dublin hotel in December 2018. The jury awarded her damages amounting to approximately €248,603.60 (around £206,000). Newspapers reported that other retail chains, including Costcutter and Carry Out, are also expected to follow suit. As a consequence of the ongoing legal issues surrounding McGregor, IO Interactive, the developer of the Hitman video game series, announced that it would cease collaboration with him, effectively removing content featuring the fighter from its platforms. This decision underscores the seriousness of the situation as retailers and developers take steps to distance themselves from his brand due to reputational concerns stemming from the case. McGregor's legal troubles appear to be impacting his business interests significantly, adding financial strain following the reported £103 million sale of the majority stake in his whiskey brand to Proximo Spirits in 2021.
