Toyota recalls 43,000 Sequoia Hybrids over tow hitch cover issue

Toyota is recalling nearly 43,400 Sequoia Hybrid SUVs due to concerns that the tow hitch covers may detach while driving. This issue poses a potential road hazard, increasing the risk of accidents if the covers fall off the rear bumper. The recall affects model years 2023 and 2024, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The tow hitch covers are designed to be secured by molded clips to the rear bumper. However, the current design may not provide sufficient retention, leading to the possibility of the covers coming loose. Toyota has acknowledged this flaw in a recall report submitted to the NHTSA, emphasizing the need for corrective action. To address the problem, affected vehicle owners are advised to take their Sequoia hybrids to a dealership. There, technicians will install an updated replacement cover at no cost to the owners. Additionally, modifications will be made to the rear bumper to enhance the attachment of the tow hitch cover. In a related note, Toyota has also recalled approximately 1,900 other Sequoia Hybrids outside the U.S. that may be experiencing the same issue. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers by preventing potential hazards associated with the tow hitch cover detachment.
