On Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee convened back-to-back meetings at the state secretariat, Nabanna, to discuss significant developments in West Bengal. A primary focus was the establishment of a semiconductor plant, with Banerjee announcing that the land for the project is ready. She emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating it would create numerous job opportunities and marking it as a significant achievement for the state after three years of negotiations with American officials. In addition to the semiconductor discussions, Banerjee addressed health sector concerns during her meetings with health officials and medical college principals. She announced the dissolution of the existing Patient’s Welfare Association, indicating a shift towards a new team structure that includes the Principal and both senior and junior doctors. This restructuring aims to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of the health system. Furthermore, the Chief Minister introduced the 'Raatrer Saathi' application, designed to ensure the safety of women doctors during night shifts. To support these initiatives, she allocated Rs. 100 crore for hospital security arrangements, reflecting her commitment to improving healthcare safety. Amid these developments, Kolkata Police issued a notification prohibiting meetings and assemblies near Esplanade due to ongoing protests related to the RG Kar issue, highlighting the tense political climate in the region.
