Story

The FBI conducted a search on Tuesday morning at a Long Island residence linked to Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul. Law enforcement sources confirmed the search at the Manhasset property, which Sun vacated nearly two years ago. Both Hochul's office and the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn declined to comment on the ongoing investigation. Linda Sun was appointed to her role in September 2021, becoming the highest-appointed Asian American in Hochul's administration. However, she was reportedly fired after evidence of misconduct surfaced, which was subsequently referred to law enforcement. A source familiar with the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, indicated that the specifics of the alleged misconduct remain undisclosed. Following her departure from the governor's office, Sun managed the 2023 campaign of Austin Cheng, a Democrat who unsuccessfully sought to replace George Santos after his expulsion from the U.S. House. Cheng has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding Sun's involvement in his campaign. Sun's political career includes serving as chief of staff to Grace Meng, a current U.S. House member, and holding various roles during Governor Andrew Cuomo's administration, including deputy superintendent at the Department of Financial Services and director of Asian American Affairs. The investigation into her conduct raises questions about her past roles and the implications for those in the Hochul administration.
