The incident, which took place around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Stover Avenue, resulted in the death of 8-year-old Obed Barbosa-Carbajal and left three other family members injured. Laris reportedly veered into oncoming traffic while speeding, colliding head-on with another vehicle. The impact of the crash sent all four occupants of the car to the hospital, where young Obed later succumbed to his injuries. His siblings, including a 16-year-old brother, a 10-year-old sister, and a 25-year-old sister who was driving them to school, sustained serious injuries. Investigators revealed that Laris was driving over 100 mph at the time of the collision and had cannabis in his system. Following a thorough investigation, Laris was taken into custody on Thursday. He had previously been hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash. The Riverside County District Attorney's Office has approved charges against him, including one felony count of murder for Obed's death and three felony counts for causing great bodily injury to his siblings.
