- Rumors circulate about a possible gathering of Venezuelan immigrants in Aurora.
- Aurora police are preparing for the rumored event, although they emphasize that it is only speculation.
- No confirmed plans for the gathering have been reported yet.
Aurora police have responded to circulating rumors regarding a potential gathering of Venezuelan immigrants this weekend, stating that there is currently no confirmed information about such an event. Acting Deputy Chief Chris Juul acknowledged the concerns of local residents but emphasized that preparations are being made as a precaution. "While we don't have any direct information of a specific location within Aurora, we're preparing just in case," Juul remarked. The call for protests by Venezuelans worldwide follows the recent election results in their home country, which have sparked significant unrest. In a previous spontaneous gathering at the Gardens at Havana shopping center, police noted that while some individuals took advantage of the situation, the event did not pose a threat to the community. Juul highlighted that the majority of participants were simply exercising their First Amendment rights. Marielena Suarez, executive director of the nonprofit Papagayo, which assists Venezuelan refugees in Colorado, expressed the community's desire for change after decades of economic hardship and political instability in Venezuela. "Venezuelans are eager to have a change. Families want to have a future," she stated, emphasizing the need for their voices to be heard. In anticipation of any potential gatherings, the Aurora Police Department has been in contact with the Venezuelan community to ensure safety. Juul reassured the public that he does not expect any violence, noting that the gatherings are typically composed of individuals seeking to express their views peacefully.
