During a meeting focused on climate change, Gagrani emphasized the importance of managing environmental risks effectively and fostering a green perspective through urban green spaces and sustainable development policies. Ashwini Joshi, the additional municipal commissioner, pointed out the adverse effects of environmental changes on air quality, particularly during winter months. She urged for proactive measures to be implemented before the upcoming winter to avert further deterioration of air quality. The Environment and Climate Change Department has been tasked with continuously assessing environmental risks in the region. The BMC has also instructed real estate developers to adhere to 27 guidelines aimed at pollution reduction. This is part of a broader effort to ensure that construction activities do not contribute to the worsening air quality. Furthermore, special squads will be deployed in all wards for daily inspections of construction sites to enforce compliance with these guidelines. The meeting included various officials from the BMC, highlighting a collaborative approach to address the pressing issue of air pollution. The emphasis on immediate action reflects the urgency of improving Mumbai's environmental conditions and the commitment of the civic body to implement effective measures.
