A Russian university lecturer, Zaliya Shamigulova, 29, was found brutally murdered in Mauritius after meeting a man on the dating app Tinder. The shocking incident unfolded when Shamigulova, who was on holiday, was reported missing after leaving her rental flat near Flic-en-Flac beach on August 17. Her body was discovered in a shallow grave in La Marie, showing signs of severe mutilation, including multiple stab wounds and the removal of her tongue and throat. The suspect, Puryavirsingh Sundur, 29, an IT engineer from Mauritius, allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted out of jealousy after discovering Shamigulova's supposed infidelity. Reports indicate that he had taken her sightseeing on the island when the incident occurred. Local police are investigating whether Sundur had any accomplices in the crime, as he led authorities to the burial site after his arrest. Shamigulova, who had previously served as a torchbearer for the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, was last seen on video getting into Sundur's blue Toyota car. Her family received messages from her phone suggesting she had chosen to disappear, raising concerns about her safety. The tragic event has drawn attention to the potential dangers of online dating, particularly in foreign countries. As the investigation continues, Shamigulova's family mourns the loss of a vibrant young woman who had expressed excitement about her holiday, stating she was "catching happiness every day." She was scheduled to travel to Madagascar shortly after her disappearance.
