Amazon invests billions to establish data center hub in New Zealand

New Zealand is set to become a crucial regional hub for Amazon Web Services (AWS) with a significant investment of NZ$7.5 billion ($4.4 billion) from Amazon. This expansion aims to enhance the cloud computing infrastructure and data centers across the country, catering to growing demand from local businesses such as tech unicorn Xero and Kiwibank. The new AWS Region will empower organizations to adopt cloud services more efficiently, helping them accelerate their digital transformation initiatives. Amazon's investment is part of a broader strategy, as the company has been increasing its presence in the Asia Pacific region. Over the next few years, Amazon plans to invest more than $50 billion in scaling its digital infrastructure across various countries including Australia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The location of the data center has not been disclosed, but Amazon has indicated it will utilize renewable energy, sourced from New Zealand's largest wind farm situated about 150 kilometers north of Wellington.
