On August 10, Dr. Yuvaram Reddy and Chetan Jhaveri celebrated their wedding at the Springfield Country Club in Pennsylvania, blending their South and North Indian heritages. The couple, who are both gay, sought a traditional Hindu ceremony that also embraced modern inclusivity. They exchanged pride garlands, a contemporary twist on the traditional 'jayamala' ritual, symbolizing their commitment and cultural fusion. The officiant, Sapna Pandya, an L.G.B.T.Q. Hindu pandita, guided them through the ceremony, ensuring it reflected their identities and backgrounds. Dr. Reddy, originally from Bloomingdale, New Jersey, moved to Tamil Nadu at the age of six. He pursued a medical degree and a Master of Public Health from Harvard, while Mr. Jhaveri, of Gujarati descent, was the only man Dr. Reddy dated as he came to terms with his sexuality. Their relationship began in April 2018 through the Coffee Meets Bagel dating app, where they connected over shared cultural backgrounds and experiences. The wedding not only marked a personal milestone for the couple but also represented a broader acceptance of diverse identities within traditional frameworks. The families' approval was essential, highlighting the importance of familial support in their union.
