Story

EL DORADO COUNTY – The Crozier Fire continues to pose a significant threat in El Dorado County, prompting mandatory evacuations for over 1,600 structures. The fire ignited shortly after 1:20 a.m. on August 8, near Slate Mountain in the Eldorado National Forest. As of Friday, the fire has expanded to 1,960 acres, with containment efforts only achieving 5%. The Foresthill Fire Protection District reported that the fire consumed nearly 380 acres on Friday alone, fueled by hot temperatures, breezy conditions, and low humidity. In response to the escalating situation, the Placerville airport has closed indefinitely to facilitate firefighting operations. While tenants can access the airport, all flight and ground activities have been suspended. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has issued several evacuation orders, which have been extended east along Highway 193 and north along Wentworth Springs Road. By Wednesday evening, the evacuation zone expanded to include Balderson Station, Quintette, Buckeye, and Valcanoville, reaching the Placer County line. Evacuation warnings have also been issued for surrounding areas in El Dorado County. Meanwhile, the Placer County Sheriff's Office is monitoring the fire but has not issued any evacuation warnings. Residents seeking assistance can find an evacuation center at Cameron Park CSD, located at 2502 Country Club Dr., and an animal shelter at animal control in Diamond Springs. Authorities continue to prioritize safety as they combat the ongoing fire threat.
