A Canadian individual named Cameron Dylan McDougall, aged 28, was involved in a violent incident at Miami International Airport in December 2024. This confrontation began on December 27, when McDougall reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with a fellow passenger on a Copa Airlines flight traveling from Panama City to Toronto. As a result of this altercation, the flight was diverted to Miami, where McDougall was removed but not arrested. Instead, he was informed that he could book another flight back to Canada and he opted to purchase a ticket for the following day on Air Canada. However, the situation escalated on December 28, as McDougall attempted to board his Air Canada flight. After having cleared TSA security, he unexpectedly struck another passenger without provocation, leading to chaotic scenes within the airport. A security guard who intervened was also assaulted in the process. Just moments later, McDougall returned to the TSA screening area and began attacking TSA personnel. Although a TSA supervisor managed to avoid some punches, another officer was struck in the face multiple times, resulting in minor injuries for the officer. The entire outburst was caught on airport surveillance cameras. The video footage reveals McDougall throwing punches, struggling with agents, and engaging in violent outbursts against both airport staff and fellow travelers. Despite being subdued and arrested by the Miami-Dade Police Department, McDougall's actions significantly alarmed other airport travelers present during the incident. In light of the event, he was charged with federal offenses that included assaulting, resisting, or obstructing federal officers. McDougall pleaded guilty to these charges on May 19, 2025, and is facing a potential maximum sentence of two years in prison.
