Astronaut Captures Stunning Aurora and Moon Images from Space

In a breathtaking display of nature, astronaut Matthew Dominick, part of the Expedition 71 crew aboard the International Space Station (ISS), has captured stunning images of the moon and vibrant auroras from 250 miles above Earth. Dominick, an experienced photographer, shared his excitement on social media, noting the remarkable auroral activity coinciding with the arrival of a new camera lens via the Cygnus cargo spacecraft on August 6. The auroras, which are caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with Earth's atmospheric gases, have been particularly vivid in recent days. Dominick's photographs showcase a striking palette of green and red hues, with the moon setting against this colorful backdrop. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to capture such a moment, stating, "Felt so lucky to grab this shot." As part of the SpaceX Crew-8 mission, Dominick's timing has allowed him to document these spectacular auroral displays alongside various spacecraft, including Boeing's Starliner and SpaceX's Crew Dragon. His mission, expected to last six months, has already yielded an impressive collection of around 200,000 photographs, taken during both leisure time and for official Earth observation and ISS maintenance tasks.
