In a dramatic turn of events at Roland Garros, two members of Team GB’s support staff, Dr. Harj Singh and physio Robbie Lillis, became unlikely heroes after saving the life of Tulkin Kilichev, the head coach of the Uzbekistan boxing team. The incident occurred during the celebration of a gold medal win for Uzbek boxer Hasanboy Dusmatov when Kilichev suffered a cardiac arrest in the warm-up area. Dr. Singh and Lillis were present when the emergency unfolded. Lillis recounted the chaos that ensued as the coaching team celebrated, only to be interrupted by alarming shouts. Singh was the first to respond, quickly initiating CPR, while Lillis retrieved a defibrillator from their emergency trauma bag. The situation was tense, with many distressed coaches surrounding them, but they managed to clear the area to administer a shock to Kilichev after the defibrillator indicated it was necessary. Once stabilized, Kilichev was handed over to the venue's medical team and transported to a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Reflecting on the experience, Lillis acknowledged the adrenaline rush and the gravity of the situation, expressing gratitude for the training that enabled them to act effectively. Singh, who has more experience in hospital settings, hopes to visit Kilichev soon, emphasizing the swift nature of the incident and the importance of their timely intervention.
