Golden eagle attacks toddler in Norway, raising concerns over behavior

A young golden eagle in Norway has attacked a toddler and three other individuals within a week, raising concerns among experts. The most recent incident occurred in Orkland, where a 20-month-old girl was playing outside when the eagle swooped down and clawed her, resulting in injuries that required stitches. The girl's mother and a neighbor intervened, and the eagle was ultimately killed after multiple attacks. The eagle, believed to be a female born this year, exhibited unusual behavior that an ornithologist attributes to a possible behavioral disorder. Alv Ottar Folkestad from BirdLife Norge noted that such aggressive actions are not typical for golden eagles, which usually prey on smaller animals. The attacks coincided with favorable weather conditions that allowed the eagle to travel long distances. In addition to the toddler, three other victims reported similar encounters, including a woman who was attacked while outside. She described the experience as overwhelming, as the eagle landed heavily on her shoulders. Her husband managed to drive the bird away, but she sustained deep wounds that required medical attention. Authorities are aware of the situation, and a gamekeeper has been contacted regarding the eagle's behavior. The incidents have sparked discussions about wildlife interactions with humans, particularly in areas where such attacks are rare. The community is left concerned about the safety of children and the potential for further encounters with aggressive wildlife.
