ATV Crash Claims Life of Midway Man on Panhandle Trail

SMITH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A tragic accident occurred on the Panhandle Trail in Washington County, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Stephen Pasquale from Midway. According to the coroner's report, Pasquale was riding an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) when he lost control, leading to a fatal crash. A passerby discovered him and promptly called 911 shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday. The incident took place near mile 22 of the trail, where Pasquale was reportedly thrown from the ATV, which subsequently rolled over him. Notably, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, raising concerns about safety measures for ATV riders. The coroner has stated that the cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy. Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Washington County Sheriff's Department, McDonald Borough police, Fort Cherry EMS, and the Smith Township Fire Department, arrived at the scene to assist. The Panhandle Trail, known for its popularity among walkers, bikers, and runners, stretches from Collier Township through Washington County to Colliers, West Virginia.
