Thane Police Arrest Four in ₹8 Lakh Fake Coin Scam

The Naya Nagar police have dismantled an interstate gang involved in a fraudulent scheme that promised high-value anti-iron making coins. The operation was led by senior police inspector Vilas Supe following a complaint from a businessman who lost Rs. 50,000 after being deceived by the gang. The gang, led by Kapil Sikoriya, utilized a method reminiscent of the rice-pulling scam, claiming that the coins could be created using expensive chemicals. To enhance their credibility, the suspects wore gloves and masks, warning victims about the dangers of the chemicals involved. The investigation revealed that the gang had successfully duped multiple victims across various locations, including Thane, Kolhapur, and Pune, accumulating a total loss of Rs. 8 lakh. The police have arrested four individuals, including Sikoriya and his accomplices Suraj More, Kiran Parmar, and Sunny Dutta, who have since confessed to their crimes. They are now facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for cheating and joint criminal liability. Authorities have recovered the apparatus and chemicals used in the scam, indicating the level of planning and execution involved in their fraudulent activities. The police are continuing their investigations to uncover the full extent of the gang's operations and to identify any additional victims. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of scams that exploit individuals' trust and the need for increased public awareness regarding such fraudulent schemes.
