Jordan Chiles' Mom Defends Her Against Racist Comments

Gina Chiles, mother of Olympian Jordan Chiles, has publicly condemned “racist, disgusting” remarks directed at her daughter on social media. On August 9, Gina took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the backlash, receiving widespread support from fans who praised both her and Jordan for their resilience in the face of criticism. Many commenters highlighted Jordan's talent and positive personality, expressing disbelief at the negative comments. Jordan Chiles recently faced a significant controversy following her performance in the individual floor exercise at the Olympics, where she initially placed fifth. After her coach submitted an inquiry regarding her score, judges reviewed her routine, resulting in a score adjustment that temporarily secured her a bronze medal. However, this decision was later overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which ruled that the appeal was invalid, leading to the medal being awarded to Romania’s Ana Barbosu instead. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the CAS ruling on August 11, leaving USA Gymnastics devastated by the outcome. They stated that the inquiry into Jordan's score was made in good faith and intended to ensure accurate scoring in accordance with FIG rules. In light of the controversy and the emotional toll it has taken, Jordan announced on her Instagram Story that she would be stepping back from social media to focus on her mental health, expressing her gratitude for the support she has received.
